Afrikhadi 2005 is the official documentation of a landmark Craft Design Workshop organized by Dastkari Haat Samiti in collaboration with Ukusa Designs, South Africa. Held at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi, this initiative was supported by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and the Department of Economic Development, Government of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
This unique collaboration brought together skilled artisans from India and South Africa to work side by side during Dastkari Haat Samiti’s annual crafts bazaar. Through creative interaction and shared learning, the workshop focused on the development of new handmade product prototypes for global markets, combining traditional Indian and South African design sensibilities.
The workshop aimed at fostering cultural diplomacy, skill exchange, and product innovation in the craft sector. The Afrikhadi ePDF serves as both a project report and a marketing catalogue, documenting the collaborative process, showcasing handcrafted items, and capturing the creative spirit of cross-cultural partnerships.
